Opinions Wanted...

This is a loaded question, but i would love to know your opinion...how bad does the orange binding i used on my Fresh quilt clash with the border? I am debating on taking it off and doing the binding in the same material i used for the orange border ... what do you think? Is it bad enough to remove or would you just leave it as is? It will be used as decoration during the spring months. And while we are on opinions ... what color thread do you use on your quilts? I tend to use cream on most quilts, however, i am going to be doing a darker colored quilt soon and will probably use a charcoal color rather than cream since that will match it better ... do you match your thread color to all your quilts???

The little extra depth in the binding is wonderful - you must leave it! I generally use off white, silver grey, caramel and dark grey threads - seems to work for me!

I like it the way you have it. I tend to use off white, or cream. I have even used white, and on my next one I'm using a pale pale blue.

i ♥ the binding!!!
i personally don't think you should change it.

about quilting thread colors...
i almost always use a natural cream color.
but sometimes i feel like being matchy matchy and i'll use something like a caramel to bring out certain hues in my quilts.
and then there are other times when i go for contrast quilting.

Lisa, I love the binding just as it is! Did you apply that by machine? It looks awesomely straight

Thread... if you're talking about piecing, I use a light, medium or dark gray depending on the fabric. If you're talking about the actual quilting... I let the quilter decide LOL. I'm not confident about my quilting, so if I do it myself I usually try for something that blends with both the back and front. Often that ends up being something softly variegated.

Loved Matthew's quilt!

Oooh! I'm full of opinions! :) I like the binding- don't change it! And I am a sucker for variagated threads- to the point that I have picked out fabrics for a quilt based on the THREAD!! ~ Jennie

Grandma uses gray for her piecing. Her hand quilting she tends to match or complement the fabric color.

I think the binding is ok. I love it when the binding just blends into the quilt that you may need a second look at it (from the pix, I thought where's the binding). Just leave it or you can send the whole quilt to me. By the way, orange reminds me of summer and pumpkin (ongoing quilt of mine in orange).

Regarding the thread, I went overboard with variegated threads recently. So if it matches, I use it else cream colors which can be use for both dark and light quilt.

Two easy questions for me to answer:
1. I LOVE the binding!
2. I started quilting two months ago so I usea the same colour thread so you can't tell the wriggly lines on the quilting.... I suppose that when I practise more quilting i'll be using colour threads that stand out a bit more (lol)

I love the binding! I wouldn't change a thing!! Someone told me to use light gray for my sewing, so I'm trying that. Another person recommended cream, medium gray and dark gray and said those are the only colors I'll ever need. We'll see! LOL

I think the binding looks great. It doesn't clash at all but has good contrast.

For machine quilting I mostly use white or cream. However, when I hand quilt, I use a color to match. In fact, on one quilt I used five different colors of thread to match each piece of the applique. I think you can do whatever you want to. I spend so much time on the piecing, that I don't want the quilting to take away from that but only enhance it. Because of that, I do try to find something that blends in a little more. Sorry -- long-winded.

Love the binding. It looks perfect. As for thread, I must be old school, 99.9% of the time I use white. In all the quilts I have made in 40 years I used green "one" time. I liked it but went back to white. Next time you are at a quilt show check some deep colored quilts to see what is used. I'm usually so in awe of the quilts I don't notice things like that.

I love the binding...I don't think it clashes at all...looks very good! I don't really have an opinion on what thread color to choose...I'm still trying to figure it out myslef. :)

I love the binding and as for thread color. I use tans, silver, dark grey's unless I'm working with black fabric. Then I go with black.

I like it. Leave it. It doesn't have to match it has to go together and they go together.
As for thread, they say the best color to use is gray unless you are quilting white or beige (then it looks dirty). Just what I have heard.

Ilove the binding. It gives just a hint of an extra outline at the edges. It seems to have been the unknownily (is that a word?)perfect choice!

I don't think the binding needs to be removed, it blends wonderfully. As for thread colours, I'm guessing your talking about machine quilting. I use a colour that blends with the predominant background fabric.

The binding is cute! As far as thread goes I try to use whatever color my quilt is. I love so fine by superior threads. It blends and goes so nice with my quilting:)

I love the binding...seems like you are in the minority! :)

For piecing I tend to match my project but I've heard before that gray is the best. I'm a pretty new quilter so I think I'm going to try it.

I really like the looks of it!

I think it looks great, no way I would take it off! I blew the picture up, I thought it was a great pairing! Thread--I use mostly white, cream, silver grey. I only match thread when I think it will show, like in a seam on a darker border, and to sew down binding.

I love the binding, Lisa, I would leave it - variety is the spice of life, they say! On thread - I most always use a neutral tan or gray - but sometimes I like to use variegated threads if I can find one that really sets of my piecing!
Cheers!
