SNOW SNOW SNOW and New Fabric

Well, it's been a very snowy day! We were to get 8 to 10 inches and i'm not sure exactly how much we had, but it was alot. Here's a picture taken out the window towards the pine tree and you can see the snow coming down. It snowed most of the morning and finally stopped about 2:00. But it's January in Ohio, so it can just keep snowing!

So...in my previous post i titled it New Fabric and Previous Quilts...but forgot to post on the new fabric...DUH! Here is some beautiful fabric i bought at the Red Rooster this weekend. I was going to do it with the Crazy Eight pattern, but now i'm thinking i'll hold on to it for a while and see if something else comes along. I was thinking of purchasing another lavender from this collection so it's not too over-powered with peach and coral, but now that i look at it, i sorta like how it looks. I think there may be just enough lavender. It's the Gypsy Rose collection by Moda.

and here is the Christmas fabric i purchased...it was 40% off and it just struck me as pretty. I think the paisley could be used not just as Christmas material, but I saw a quilt made of stockings at Busy Little Quilter and thought these would be pretty for that also. It is on Amanda's December 3rd post and it is adorable!!

this too is Christmas fabric...

Have a great day!!!

New Fabric and Previous Quilts

Hello! It seems like it has been a while since I've posted. I picked up the Irish throw and Decadent Victorian throw from the quilters and below are pictures of the long-arming. I think they turned out AWESOME! As you know I just wasn't digging the Irish throw, but when I got it back with the 4 leaf clovers on it and i put the binding on it...i really like it now. My quilter lost her clover pattern in the flood we had back in August 07 so she drew a pattern for my SILs throw and i think she did a wonderful job. Here are a few up-close pictures.
I absolutely love the design she did on my decadent victorian quilt. It is so pretty and i'm not even sure where I am going to put it so for now it is tucked away in a tub...hopefully I don't forget about it!
Last night I finished my valentine's throw and will take that to the quilter sometime this week. my SIL found a cozy pattern at House on Hill Road's blog so i am going to try and make one of those this evening to see how it goes. They are adorable and would be great for that cup of latte! I also need to get cutting and sewing my strips for my Calendar Quilt Challenge...I haven't even started that so I am already 26 days behind...i hope that doesn't show how the year is going to go!
Have a great Tuesday!

New Fat Quarters

More Funky Fat Quarters for the Calendar Quilt Challenge. I'm not sure where these are going, but they just struck me when I saw them so I bought them...I'm sure they will fit nicely with the quilt...i just need to get busy cutting and sewing the first 20 strips for January! I think I am going to do some blocks that are all one color and then i'm going to throw in some blocks that are all colors. I also decided i'm going to go thru the small stash i do have and for each month that i did a quilt i'm going to throw a piece of material from that quilt in for that month. I also decided that i will do special strips for special days, like soccer ball material for my one nephew's birthday or baseballs for the other. Hope you week is going great!

Pinkey

Here she is.....isn't she ADORABLE! I have given her the name Pinkey. I just love the colors and the fun prints...I'm so happy with how she turned out! She's not real big, only about 38" x 46" but just the prefect size to use once a year...however...would you put a border on? If so...which material would you use? or...would you just call it a day? This pattern was so fun to do and it went together pretty quick. It is called Crazy Eights by Bits N Pieces. I'm thinking about having it long-armed with hearts but not sure if I'll have her use red thread or pink...what do you think?
Well, since this throw was suppose to be my project this weekend I think I'll have to find another throw that I can start working on. A few weeks back I posted some Christmas material that I purchased at the Door Mouse and was planning on using this pattern for that as well, maybe I can knock that one out this weekend too.
Well, I think it's time to sign off for the evening. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and if you are in the frigid weather...stay warm and if you are in sunny and warm weather, think of me...I'd love to be there right now on my Harley :O)

Valentines Cut

YEAH!!! The blocks are all cut and now I can start laying it out to see how it is going to look...The more I cut and ironed this material the more I love it...it is just so pretty and fun...pretty girly too...my only thought is maybe I should have thrown some more red in there, but that's ok cuz I'm all about pink anyway and I really haven't done a pink quilt yet...

Valentines Material

OH! How the simple things in life make me so happy! My Valentine's material just arrived from Fat Quarter Shop and it is sooooo pretty! I may not be able to wait for the weekend to start cutting this...it's going to be so cute with the Crazy Eights pattern...something small and simple. Hope everyone is staying warm...it was 3 degrees this morning with a windchill of 14 below zero...and it's not suppose to get much warmer tomorrow...brrrr...have a great day!

Calendar Challenge Material Purchased

Hello! Well not a lot has been happening...didn't do any sewing over the weekend like I wanted to, but did do some shopping!! Yesterday I ordered some valentine material from the Fat Quarter Shop so I hope to have that the end of the week and start working on a Crazy Eights pattern. It's cute and small and will work perfect for a little Valentines Throw. If you haven't seen the Love Is In The Air collection, it is absolutely adorable! Last week I went to the quilt store and purchased some pink, purple and blue material (pictured below) for the Calendar Challenge so since hubby is working this weekend I will definitely get started on that. I'd like to add some yellow and greens to the mix and possibly some oranges, but that will wait until the first week in March when my cousin and I are planning our own shop-hop over in Cleveland. I think I need to get some material that has a little punch to it and now that I look at the purples...definitely need to add something to that collection.
Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Impulse Purchase

Hello! Well, it's suppose to snow today and tomorrow so it sounds like a great weekend to stay home! Maybe get some sewing done and work on my Calendar Challenge. So here it is...a picture of the impulse material that I purchased quite a while back...it just doesn't grab me like it did the day I walked in the quilt shop. The first time I saw it (which was the time I purchased it) I absolutely loved it, but now I can take or leave it. I've been trying to figure out something to do with it...maybe if I hang on to it long enough something will come to mind...until then, on to other quilts to be made :O) Have a great week-end!

Best Press Bag

Ok, so I may be behind the times a bit and if so, I apologize! BUT...I was looking at Polka Dots & Rick Rack and she referred to the cutest posting done at Atkinson Designs back in November showing instructions on making a Best Press Bag for Mary Ellen's Best Press spray. They are absolutely adorable so I must add this to my list of items to make! Be sure to check out the 2009 Calendar Quilt Challenge, it's going to be lots of fun!

2009 Calendar Quilt Challenge

Hello! So I was just reading my friend Christine's blog ... and she has a post regarding a Calendar Quilt Challenge that Rachel is hosting that sounds like a ton of fun. You add a new strip each day of the year, or you can do it a week or month at a time. Then at the end of the year you have a completed quilt. I think I am going to do mine in blocks with sashing between them. I'm going to make one block for each month and each block will be done in one set color. Since I just began quilting in January 08 and 3 of my 10 quilts are done in Kansas Troubles, I'm afraid that most of my Calendar Quilt would look pretty boring, so I'm going to be purchasing some FQs so I have enough material for the quilt...darn, another trip to the quilt store!!! Be sure to check out the Challenge. It's going to be lots of fun!!!

Kristin's Purchase

Here is the material that my cousin bought when we were shopping at The Door Mouse. This Christmas material is for a stocking quilt. Amanda at Busy Little Quilter has a tutorial on her 12/3/08 post for these stocking blocks and they will make an ADORABLE Christmas quilt or table runner! I just love this set of blues and whites. The white on white has swirrly's on it and is so pretty. She bought this back in the fall when we planned our own shop-hop so she was on a mission to find some more blues to go with it.... and here are the additional blues....i think this quilt will be absolutely beautiful!

The Door Mouse

The Door Mouse is an absolute AWESOME place to go if you are looking for fabric. They have so much and each row is color coded and then they have all the 1930s together and the Civil War together and so on. When you look at the below pictures, the columns of fabric are 3 shelves high and then on the floor in front of the first shelf is another row of fabric on each side of the isle...so if someone else is coming your way down the isle, someone will have to back up because you can't even get around each other...it is a wonderful place! They have been having their after Christmas sale that ended on December 30th. Now they get to do inventory...can you imagine!!!
These pictures are of their upstairs which is all their flannel material...oh I would love to do a flannel quilt one day...may be something to think about doing in the near future. One good thing about their upstairs is only 1/2 of it is used, the other half is open so they could always extend their upstairs over for even more material!!!
These two pictures are taken looking over the upstairs railing down at all the rows of material...this place is a quilters paradise and it is only 26 miles from my home...that could be a bad thing!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures of my trip to The Door Mouse. If you ever make to Ohio be sure to stop in. They are only about 20 minutes tops from the Turnpike and the Fremont exit.
Have a safe and wonderful New Year's!
