Bloggy Break...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by those you luv :O)

Well, it's been a bit since I've blogged and it will be a bit longer.  Hubby and I purchased a new home (new to us) last month and we are knee deep in painting, cleaning, getting ready to gut the bathroom and still need to decide what we are going to do with the kitchen.

I hope to be back to blogging and quilting early spring because i sincerely miss it.

A Birthday & Betsy's Quilt...

So ... yesterday I woke up, hubby was at work...i threw the covers off to get out of bed and it was so cold that i covered back up and went back to sleep for another hour ... boy that felt great!

An hour later I got up, called my brother to wish him a happy birthday and ended up driving down to see him and his family and go to lunch...then my sis-in-law and i did some shopping ... we found a cute pattern called Cloud Nine and the fabric line Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater ... so here is what I bought...half yard cuts of these great fabrics...

Came home last night, cut out the quilt and this morning i did this...

Here is a close-up of it...

Now ... to get some flannel backing and get it off to the quilter .... MERRY CHRISTMAS BETSY!

Would Luv to Donate some Fabric

Happy Wednesday and thank goodness it is almost over!

So, it seems that my scraps are beginning to drive me a bit crazy (and that's a short trip!). Does anyone know of charities that take quality quilt scraps for donation quilts? I'd luv to donate some!

So here is my Jack-O-Lantern quilt all completed! I absolutely luv him! I luv him so much that i decided to make another one but in a smaller version so i can hang it on the wall ... here is my fabric :O)

And this ... the stripe is for binding, swirly is for inner boder and candy corns for outer border...
I'm ready to get started on this but think i will wait a bit. It won't get done and hung before halloween, so maybe next year i'll make it.

Jack-O-Lantern

Happy Sunday :O) Well yesterday i made a quick trip to The Door Mouse in Bettsville, OH just to get backing for a quilt that i started in 2010 ... well, in 30 minutes i walked out with backing for the quilt and a new project ... I'm a sucker for Halloween and just had to have this pattern (and fabric to make it)... Here are a few blocks that I've made and I can't wait to finish it!
Have a great week everyone! And since i think i have my sewing mojo back i hope to spend my week sewing in the evenings!

KT Scrappy Stars Quilt

So i received this quilt from the quilters a few weeks ago and it has the prettiest Kansas Troubles flannel backing on it in maroon ... but it's been too stinkin hot lately to put binding on a flannel backed quilt!  So, today it was rainy, cool, breezy and the perfect day to put binding on...here she is all bound, washed and ready to be used...i think this quilt is my favorite!

 Here is a close-up...
I just luv these Kansas Troubles fabrics ... and now i'm trying to convince my husband to turn our bedroom into a log cabin ... i just think a huge quilt in this fabric with be perfect!

 Have a wonderful week-end everyone!

Happy Sunday Evening!!!  All i can is i have REALLY missed sewing!  I'm not sure where the time has gone, but I'm definitely going to make a better effort at making more quilts once again!  Here is the quilt that i finished today...i spent 4 hours squaring up the blocks, putting the top together, cutting and making the borders and getting them attached ... this is done in my Kansas Troubles scraps and i luv it!
This week i hope to get the backing for it in flannel...the front is cotton but i think i'm going to put flannel on the back ... i've never done it before, so if you have, please let me know if that is ok to do or if i should stick with cotton.

Hope everyone has a GREAT week and I have my next quilt project out and ready to get cutting, so hopefully i'll have more posts in the near future :o)

P.S. My sister-in-law is also in the process of getting fabric for me to make her King size quilt, so that will be worked on in the near future too...

Baby Quilts

What a great weekend! Woke up to SNOW...YAY! Then spent the morning sewing, went to luch with the hubby for wings and fries ... came home and spent the afternoon sewing some more.

Today I worked on some quilts for the Neonatal ICU at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston. Terry posted about it the other day and it sounded like such a great thing to do ... so i put my personal quilting on hold to make a few for the babies! I have 2 done and fabric pulled to make another two. I hope to get some of the quilting on them done tomorrow while hubby is on the picket line ...

Thanks for the post on these Terry, it's such a great thing to do for the babies and their families!!!

Hi Everyone! Gosh it has been a while! But i've been doing a little bit of sewing! I just finished a baby quilt but can not show it yet as it hasn't been given to the new baby ... but hopefully i'll be able to post it soon :O)

But besides that I have been working on a scrap quilt in Kansas Troubles ... i just LUV that line and i think the Butterfly Garden collection is my favorite! This will be the 4th quilt i have done in KT and i see many more in the future.

These blocks i took from Piece N Quilt's blog ... they are just adorable!

this block is one of my favorites and i'm thinking of making a red white and blue quilt of just this block in the near future...
pinwheels just mke everything adorable...so here is what the quilt looked like when i had 18 of the blocks cut out and made ... then i decided to add another row so i now i'm in the process of cutting out another 7 blocks to make it 5 x 5 ...

Final Finish For 2011 = Carnival

Hey everyone! Well i finally finished my Carnival quilt and i think it is so adorable ... i just luv the colors ... the pattern is Carnival by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts and was actually easier to make than i thought...using the ruler to cut the fabric scared me at first, but it was a breeze! It's done in Central Park by Kate Spain ... isn't she just sweet :O)
Hope you have a wonderful and safe New Year !!!!

Family Christmas & My Favorite Place

HELLO! Gosh, I can't believe it is one week until Christmas!

Last weekend we had our extended family Christmas and I received the BEST gift ... this awesome gift certificate ... *sigh*

JEllen's is my absolute favorite quilt shop and i so wish i lived closer! My Aunt Sally had my name and she was saying how pleasant Joyce was to work with and what a nice lady she is ... so if you ever get the chance ... be sure to stop in and say hi to Joyce ... i'm sure you will leave with a bag full of goodies like we tend to do!!! Here is the link to her shop ... http://www.jellenshouseoffabric.com/

And this fabulous fabric my cousin picked up for me back in July at JEllen's sale ... it was 50% off ... my kinda sale :O) It is Charlevoix by Minick & Simpson.

I have no ideal what i'm going to do with it ... just like all the other fabric i purchase, so i'll just say i'm a fabric hoarder! Gosh, what a problem to have :O)

Turkey Day Surpise

I just luv getting stuff like this :O) My awesome cousin sent me this bag ....
Which contained this GREAT spaghetti sauce because i couldn't find it in my town ... and she also included this great fabric!!! It is the backing for my Carnival pattern. I have the squares cut out and the quilt ready to be put together ... i'm doing it in the blue and purples and just luv it!!Also in the bag was a GREAT surprise...this pattern from a magazine back in 1999. Her grandma is a quilter with a stash of fabric, rulers and sewing machines to die for! She made this quilt in similar colors and i fell in luv with it ... well this magazine with the pattern was in the bag for me too and i can't wait to make it with scraps from Kansas Troubles....o000 la la !!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey Day with those you love!

I Love Snow Flannel

So last Saturday i went shopping with my sister in law to a few quilt shops ... made an impulse puchase and bought this quilt kit for a great price ... it included the backing and binding. For some reason I've always stayed away from quilts that have 'panels' ... now i know why ... they aren't always the straightest items to work with...but, i did manage to get the 3 strips of panels pretty straight, so i'm happy with the quilt.

The pattern and fabric line is called "I Love Snow" by Shelly Comiskey for Henry Glass. It's the first flannel quilt i have made and it will be great to use this winter.

Here is a close-ups of it ... sorry i couldn't get the picture to rotate.
I have The Grinch Who Stole Christmas fabric on order in flannel and hope to get one more quilt knocked out in December so my machine can go in to the shop for some serious cleaning.

Baby Quilt ... MoJo Back? ... Ahhh ...

Hello! Gosh, it's been a while! Well, I totally lost my MoJo over the summer and spent alot of time reading, so it was a nice break! But now it is time to get back to some quilting ... i've purchased lots of new fabrics, have tons of projects i want to do and so my MoJo is back :O)

Here is some fabric I purchased to make a baby quilt for my girlfriends first grandbaby ... her name will be Ellie when she arrives in January ... I am going to use the Summer Squares pattern from Moda Bake Shop and plan to applique ELLIE in the big white strip and hopefully it will turn out ... I have never appliqued before, so this will be a first ... if you have any tips, PLEASE feel free to leave them!

Hope everyone is having a great fall and can you believe that Christmas is less than 2 months away? WOO HOO!!!
